Random Ramblings

I said it in my last post but I’ll say it again: I’ve been a terrible blogger lately. Between veggie gardens, flower gardens, 24 yards of mulch and spring cleaning, I’ve had zero time on my hands. There are always a few weeks in the spring that I feel like this and usually a few weeks in the fall, when veggies are being harvested and preserved.

If I’ve not stopped by your blog recently, believe me, it’s coming. I’m looking forward to the afternoon I get to sit back with my laptop and a cold beverage and catch up with everyone!

I just harvested the last of our spring Easter egg radishes and did find the time to snap a few photos:

My husband and I like radishes so much that they rarely make it into a recipe or even a salad; typically we eat them out of the fridge like they’re candy within a matter of a few days.

Are any of you going garden crazy? Or maybe already taken a vacation, or planning one? Maybe you’re finding time to relax and kick back a bit? I’d love to hear what you’re up to and again, am looking forward to catching up on all your blogs!

  • Unfortunately I live by the Gulf of Mexico and gardening is a real challenge with the salt and sand. I have a nice (little) crop of Basil going and certain flowers. I love your posts about the garden since I can admire vicariously your harvest

    • Thank you John! I’d be just like you and grow what I could! We had such hot, dry weather last year that keeping flowers and veggies going was a struggle. I’m hoping for better weather this year.

  • What are you thoughts on using River Stones instead of Mulch? I heard it is a better choice when it is near the foundation of your home and, unlike mulch, does not need to be replaced…

    • Yeah, we try and leave a little room between house and mulch, as it can not only attract water to the base of your house but bugs, too! I love the look of river stone in some gardens but we only have one area where they would truly work. It has to be somewhat of a contained area so they don’t end up in the yard and therefore being projectile missiles each time the lawn gets mowed. 🙂

  • Isn’t it great Lesley to see all of our labours in the garden during the winter and spring months finally flourishing into produce and the flowers providing wonderful aromas. My roses have have finally started flourishing and it is a joy to see them climbing over the cottage door, making it a joy to go out even to empty the house hold rubbish and recycling waste. I hope you have a great week…best wishes James

    • So, so true James! So much work goes into gardening that when the results are finally evident, it’s truly a joy. I’m craving fresh (real!) tomatoes and green beans already, though I know it will be another month or so. And all of my flowers are starting to bloom, also – I feel like I can never have enough of them. I hope you have a great week too!
